Doesn’t everyone know that Tylenol is no friend of the liver?
Apparently, not!
I’ve read information forms given me at the time of an ultrasound that suggested prescribing Tylenol for the pain encountered with a liver biopsy.
I was shocked.
If one’s liver enzymes are so out of whack that one is going for a biopsy, the last thing one needs is a prescription for Tylenol.
Come on people! Let’s think before we do harm on those prescription pads, or their digital replacements.
Then my doctor offered me a prescription for Tylenol after I fainted and hurt my leg. After I pointed out that I had cirrhosis or NAFLD, he gave me a prescription for codeine. I haven’t checked that out yet. I did take the codeine for a couple of weeks.
Now I go to a website on liver disease and the good doctor is recommending extra strength Tylenol? Hmmm! Now I’m experiencing a bit of doubt, but not enough to stop me from seeing what she has to say that works without nasty side effects. Even geniuses are still working on their theories. I for one am not about to wait around until they get everything right in order to appreciate and benefit from what they have clued into.
Dr. Melissa Palmer of www.liverdisease.com is knowledgeable, but I’m going to be checking everything that I might want to do that is on her site…not that I’m either infallible, or a doctor. She did point out not to mess around with Valerian as a sleep aid and she could be right.
I don’t use Valerian and if I don’t sleep at night, so what?! Other than my liver may wish I’d shut down during the early morning hours, so it could get some energy to maintain whatever function it still has, I have no problem with erratic sleeping.
Beware of Acetaminophen for your liver’s sake and research everything. FIRST. Before you take it. It’s true: timing can be everything.
Just don’t blame the doctor for what you didn’t do for your liver.
